Vessel with sand and pebble inclusions, +N, 40x petrographic analysis: Attila Kreiter (HNM)
The majority of the analysed ceramics have highly sandy raw materials and even the thoroughly decorated and highly burnished bowls were made from medium to coarse raw materials all through the life span of the tell settlement. From the potters’ perspective, these raw materials with large inclusions posed a real challenge during decoration and burnishing since coarse inclusions hindered these processes. The common appearance of coarse raw materials at this site is intriguing because according to our previous ceramic analyses, such raw materials are not characteristic of the Middle Bronze Age.
